About Gjerstad Gallery

Representing the Unrepresented Majority
Gjerstad Gallery is dedicated to championing contemporary artists from underrepresented communities, particularly from the Global South and its diasporas. Too often these voices are silenced by conflict, displacement, or exclusion from mainstream art spaces.
Through curated exhibitions, art sales, and cultural exchange, we connect their work with international audiences and foster dialogue across cultures.

A new chapter: Gjerstad Gallery
The gallery is led by Anna Gjerstad and Shlomo Peretz, who bring experience from the humanitarian field and a deep passion for art.
Together they envision Gjerstad Gallery as a feminist, multicultural, and anti-colonial space forward-looking and committed to expanding the reach of contemporary art worldwide.

Honoring the Legacy
Our path is inspired by the artistic vision of Kari Bugge Gjerstad and Odd Gjerstad, whose creativity and courage marked Norwegian art since the 1980s. From ceramics to experimental forms, their journey left a legacy of resilience and innovation.
By revisiting their story, we ground Gjerstad Gallery in a tradition of craftsmanship and exploration while carving out new directions for contemporary voices.

These archival newspaper clippings from the late 20th century capture moments from Karin and Odd Gjerstad’s artistic journey, from ceramics to experimental forms of expression. Their courage to create and innovate, even in remote places and times of challenge, continues to inspire Gjerstad Gallery today. By revisiting these stories, we ground our new path in a legacy of resilience, creativity, and cultural dialogue

Meet the direction of Gjerstad Gallery
Anna Gjerstad and Shlomo Peretz bring a unique blend of vision and commitment to Gjerstad Gallery. Through their humanitarian work in countries such as Mali, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Iraq, Colombia, and Venezuela, they have witnessed firsthand how, even in the harshest conditions, art continues to emerge as a form of resilience and hope.
Their passion for art led them to connect with local artists along these journeys, discovering powerful voices often overlooked by the global art scene.
For Anna and Shlomo, Gjerstad Gallery is more than an exhibition space: it is a platform for resilience, justice, and connection, bringing fresh and contemporary perspectives to collectors and art lovers worldwide.
